Filling the air with words
I wait –
Wait for her to finish her thoughts.
Look, glance, pause.
“Think of something else to say, Danyealah…”
Sputtering phrases of weather,
homework, travel –
Random facts followed by an “Mmhmm.”
Words go on,
the exchange continues.
Look, glance, half-smile.
An awkward race of silent pauses:
I am left at the end of it,
helplessly looking for words to fill the air.
